Carpi’s city centre is imbued with history. Palazzo dei Pio, which today houses the city museum, is a magnificent example of Renaissance architecture (www.palazzodeipio.it). Furthermore it will host the photography exhibition A gun for hire, selection: Helmut Newton’s fashion shoots for Blumarine (open Thursdays, Saturday, Sundays and bank holidays from 10am until 1pm and from 3pm until 7pm. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 1pm. Closed on Monday. Tickets are 5 euros). The Sagra church, which overlooks piazzale Re Astolfo is renowned for its majestic tower (opening times: from Monday until Sunday from 9am to 12am. On Sundays from 2.30pm until 7pm. It is not possible to visit the church during the service). The Museum Monument to those deported for political and racial reasons is open on Thursdays by reservation only. It is also possible to book a visit to the ex synagogue located in via Giulio Rovighi as well as the concentration camp of Fossoli by calling Fondazione ex Campo Fossoli at least 20 days in advance (+ 39.059688272 or email@example.com). Moreover you cannot miss the magnificent community Theatre of Carpi which overlooks piazza Martiri, one of the largest squares in Italy.
But the area of Modena does not only stand out for its historical architecture, in fact we pride ourselves on the long-standing food traditions, no wonder the award winning chef Massimo Bottura opened his world famous restaurant La Francescana here. Just to mention some of the delicacies Carpi’s restaurants could offer: different types of balsamic vinegar, Lambrusco: the best-selling Italian wine, handmade tortellini and last but not least the original Parmigiano Reggiano. Among the many restaurants in Carpi, we recommend La Bottiglieria, Caffè del Corso, ‘Da Michele’, Ristorante Sporting Club and Ristorante Gabarda.
The province of Modena has also fathered some legendary car makers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, De Tomaso and Pagani. The history of the most notorious car in the world can be learnt and admired at the Enzo Ferrari Museum in via Paolo Ferrari 85, Modena (opening times: everyday from 9.30am until 6pm. The ticket price is 26 euros. Reduced tickets are available for students, for those aged 65 or over, agencies, tour operators and for those who accompany a disabled person.
